mr. DeBoer: Middle school social studies teacher
Mr. Andrew DeBoer was raised in the Midwest states of Illinois and Iowa. He, along with his two younger brothers and parents, moved several times throughout his childhood. Their family eventually ended up in Orange City, Iowa where he attended high school and college (Northwestern College). At Northwestern he majored in History and Secondary Education and earned endorsements in Psychology and coaching.
Shortly after graduating he married his high school sweetheart, Laura, who also earned a degree in Education. They have one young son. Mr. and Mrs. DeBoer then spent a year teaching overseas at a bilingual school in Honduras. Following that experience, they moved to rural Southwest Colorado where Mr. DeBoer taught high school social studies. After three years living in Colorado, they were offered teaching jobs in Alaska and decided to pack everything they could fit in their small camper and move.
Mr. DeBoer began teaching middle school social studies at AMC in 2021. He appreciates the culture of hard work and respect present at AMC. When Mr. DeBoer isn’t teaching you can often find him reading, biking, fishing, skiing, or many other outdoor activities.
