Mrs. Beech: Multi-AGe (2nd-5th grade) Teacher
Mrs. Doreen Beech moved to Alaska from Washington state when she was in fifth grade. On the long trip to Alaska, she read and reread a short article in a nature book about the 1964 Earthquake. Fearing that once her family arrived in Alaska there would still be cracks in the earth, she was relieved to stand on solid ground in Fairbanks! Mrs. Beech's father intended to relocate the family to Seward, but the highway was closed because of a landslide, so the Matsu Valley became home!
Mrs. Beech didn’t become a teacher by a direct path; when her children were all in school, someone offered her a job as a helper in a class-room. She loved that work! Eventually, she decided she would like to become a teacher. Mrs. Beech has a Bachelor Degree in Elementary Education from UAA and a Masters in Elementary Mathematics from UAS, and she has happily been teaching at AMC since 2011 in a multi-age classroom. Helping students learn is her favorite part of teaching! Her students might not know it, but every day she learns from them. Students constantly inspire her to try new things, to perfect routines, and to continue learning.
