Mrs. Beech: Multi-AGe (2nd-5th grade) Teacher
I moved to Alaska from Washington state when I was in fifth grade. On the long trip to Alaska, I read and reread a short article in a nature book about the 1964 Earthquake. Fearing that once we arrived in Alaska there would still be cracks in the earth, I was relieved to stand on solid ground in Fairbanks! My father intended to relocate the family to Seward, but the highway was closed because of a landslide, so the Matsu Valley became home!
I didn’t come into teaching in a direct path. When my own children were all in school, someone offered me a job as a helper in a class-room. I loved that work! Eventually, I decided that I would like to teach as a profession. I have a Bachelor Degree in Elementary Education from UAA and a Masters in Elementary Mathematics from UAS, and I have happily been teaching at AMC since 2011, in a multi-age classroom. Helping students learn is my favorite part of teaching! My students might not know it, but every day I learn from them. They constantly inspire me to try new things, to perfect our routines, and to continue learning.
