American Charter Academy is one of Mat-Su Valley’s public charter schools that offers families and students an educational choice beyond their neighborhood school. Enrollment at American Charter Academy requires submitting an application, attending a conference, and includes a lottery process when enrollment numbers exceed available student spaces.
AMC's classrooms are multi-age, and curriculum is based on Alaska State Standards and Core Knowledge Theory. All students participate in teacher-led instruction using a blend of delivery methods such as direct instruction, small group instruction, hands-on projects, experimental labs, collaborative learning, and online programs. Students are able to build on their strengths and receive support where needed. At AMC, students continue learning at home with daily homework expectations, and teachers ensure students keep on track by communicating frequently with parents.
Along with classroom instruction, American Charter Academy offers learning field trips and place-based learning opportunities, making use of our natural habitat for science and outdoor activities.
